Planes, trains and automobiles are all challenged to travel in and out of the Quad Cities area because of Tuesday’s snow storm.
Arriving and departing flights between the Quad City International Airport and Chicago were cancelled for the storm, which was expected to dump anywhere from a few inches to nearly a foot of snow between the two locations.
Amtrak trains coming into Galesburg and traveling between there and Chicago were still running on time Tuesday morning.
Illinois officials had plows on the roads before dawn Tuesday, but road conditions continued to deteriorate as heavy snow fell Tuesday morning. Illinois roads south of the Quad cities were mostly snow- and ice-covered, and roads in the Quad Cities had patches of ice and snow on them just after 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Most roads in eastern Iowa were reportedly snow-covered by 8 a.m. Iowa state police banned all vehicle towing Tuesday morning on Interstate 80 in Scott and Cedar counties.
