The Dixon School District has canceled classes Friday, an administrator told us Thursday.

The Dixon Teacher's Association sent out their picketing schedule Thursday morning. The teachers are running picket line shifts out of their union office downtown.

The teachers started day one of their strike Thursday, cancelling classes for the day.  Dixon Education Association member Mandy Dallas told us Thursday she hopes the strike ends, "sooner or later."

At 7 a.m. the teachers started at each of their individual schools. From 8 to 10 in the morning, they marched at the Galena Bridge near downtown and Dixon High School.

From 1 to 2:30 Thursday afternoon, the union members will march back at their own buildings, and the marching will stop at 3:30 p.m. in front of the Superintendent's office. As previously reported, the teachers are striking for better salaries, benefits, and smaller class sizes.

Dixon teachers and the school district will negotiate again at 7 p.m. Thursday. The district is setting up a day care service for children on Monday if the strike continues. To sign up for the day care service, click here.
