A Muscatine man is facing criminal charges after police said he broke into a Davenport lingerie store.

Jose Perales, 24, was charged with one felony count of third-degree burglary and one misdemeanor count of third-degree theft.

Perales is accused going into Dr. John’s Lingerie Boutique at 4158 N. Brady Street through the unlocked front door just after 4 a.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013.

The 325-pound Perales allegedly spent two hours in the store before he left carrying a bag of merchandise and wearing a dress and blonde wig he allegedly took from the business.  The value of the items taken was estimated at more than $1,000 but less than $2,000.

In the criminal complaint, police said they were able to identify Perales because a surveillance camera in the store captured images of his last name tattooed in Old English lettering on his back.  They a state database to match the tattoo with Perales.

The complaint says Perales later “admitted to the burglary and some of the taken items were located in his residence along with the clothing he was wearing the night of the burglary.”

Perales was arrested February 22 and he spent a little less than an hour and a half in the Scott County Jail before posting $5,000 bond.  He made his first appearance in court Tuesday, February 26, 2013 and was next scheduled to be in court in early March.
