New Rosa Parks stamp unveiled at Davenport Post Office

A new stamp honoring Rosa Parks was unveiled Wednesday at the Davenport Post Office

A new stamp was unveiled Wednesday at the Davenport Post Office.

According to the United States Postal Service website, the new stamp honors Civil Rights leader, Rosa Parks, which is one of three stamps in a civil rights set being issued in 2013. The stamps celebrate freedom, courage and equality.

In 1955 Rosa Parks sparked a movement when she refused to give up her bus seat to a white man.

“Being the first black postmaster of Davenport it's an honor,” said postmaster, Anthony Harris. “It’s an honor to be able to bring this to our community.”

The large version of the stamp can now be passed around to local schools and libraries as an educational tool.
