Local substitute teacher admits to burglary

A man who served as a substitute teacher at several area schools can no longer teach in Illinois.

A man who served as a substitute teacher at several area schools can no longer teach in Illinois.

Randy Eckert, 63, pleaded guilty to one count of felony burglary in connection with an October 2012 allegation that he broke into a Rock Island woman’s home.

Eckert struck a plea agreement that allowed him to avoid trial in the case.

As a result of his plea, Eckert was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to pay $300 in restitution.  The sentence also prohibits Eckert from having contact with the burglary victim.

As a convicted felon, Eckert is now prohibited from teaching students in Illinois schools for at least one year after his sentence is completed.
