Extensive damage at Clinton recycling plant

Firefighters are trying to learn the cause of a fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon at a Clinton recycling facility.

Firefighters are trying to learn the cause of a fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon at a Clinton recycling facility.

The fire started around 3:15 P.M. in a truck garage at Darling International, or Dar Pro Solutions, on Beaver Channel Parkway in Clinton. Employees said the garage was used to repair semis and trailers.

A few employees were in the building's break room when the fire broke out. All of them got out without injury.

Firefighters, though, said there is extensive damage to the building, and that it may be a total loss.

The Camanche Fire Department assisted Clinton Fire in managing the blaze. More than 20 first responders worked the fire at its peak.

The Clinton Fire Department said the formal investigation into the cause will begin Thursday.
