A seven-year-old who threw an invisible, imaginary grenade as he pretended to save the world has been suspended from school.

KDVR reports Alex Evans said he was playing “rescue the world” at recess when he pretended there were evil forces inside a box.

Alex said he was pretending to be the hero, “So nothing can get out and destroy the world.”

Even though he did not throw any real object or make any threats, his pretend weapon broke the rules of his school, and Alex was suspended.

As part of its Time to Teach program, the school Alex attends established a list of absolutes.  The list includes no real or play fighting and no real or play weapons.

“I think that when a child is trying to save the world, I don’t think he should be punished for it,” said Alex’s mom.

She said Alex will be at home rather than at school until it can be worked out.
