Many people saw what looked like rainbows or extra suns as sun dogs were visible in the eastern sky Friday morning, February 1, 2013.
Storm Track 8 Chief Meteorologist James Zahara says sun dogs form with the help of ice crystals that float in the air near the ground. The crystals bend the sun’s light, creating a splash of color on either side of the sun.
