Another vehicle breaks through ice on Iowa lake

For the second time in a week, rescue crews had to save someone whose car fell through the ice on Clear Lake.

For the second time in a week, rescue crews had to save someone whose car fell through the ice on Clear Lake.

David Hand, 20, was reportedly driving on the ice on his way to ice fishing when his 1999 Jeep Cherokee went through the ice at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013.

Hand was rescued, and the jeep was submerged in about 10 feet of water.

DNR law enforcement supervisor Randy Schnoebelen said vehicles should not travel across frozen bodies of water because ice is never consistent no matter how cold the weather gets.

A car driven by 17-year-old Ryan Thornton broke through the ice on Clear Lake as he drove across it Thursday, January 24, 2013.
