Meet the 2013 Contestants

Ultimate Fitness teamed up with WQAD to help 6 contestants get healthy in 2013!


Each participant will work out at Ultimate Fitness under the supervision of a trainers and followed a fitness program specially designed for them.
After three months two winners (1 male and 1 female) will be named based on change in overall fitness level and receive a $500 dollar certificate towards travel on Allegiant, from the Quad City International Airport and a year membership at Ultimate Fitness.

What is your goal in this Fitness Challenge: My goal in this fitness challenge is to finally learn the right ways to become a healthier me. I would like to see myself lose at least 20 pounds and learn awesome ways to get a workout in.

Why did you apply for the Fitness Challenge? I applied for this fitness challenge because I am far to unhealthy for my age. Losing weight is my main motivation for applying for this challenge. I also need to learn the right ways to go about losing weight a healthy way.

What is your goal in this Fitness Challenge: My personal goal would be to lose more than 25 lbs (or more!) during the challenge time & learn how to continue to lose more weight once the contest is over. I want to get my body back into a healthy state. I really want to avoid any medical conditions that might slow me down in the future; I want to have a long enjoyable healthy life!

Why did you apply for the Fitness Challenge? We have recently relocated to the Quad City area. I have been looking for a new career & thought in the meantime my “job” should be to lose weight & get back into shape. I saw this contest on WQAD & knew that would be perfect for me. I need someone to educate me on what I should be doing as I’m not succeeding on my own. And how awesome would it be to work out with a personal trainer and possibly win the $500 travel voucher to celebrate my weight lose success! Here’s to getting healthy in 2013!

What is your goal in this Fitness Challenge: I have three goals that I hope to attain during this challenge: build my endurance, lose weight, and tone up. I also hope to make good health, exercise, and smart eating a part of my daily life. This three-month challenge is just the beginning!

Why did you apply for the Fitness Challenge? Throughout most of my life, I have been the caretaker of others. In doing so, I have not taken the time to care for myself. It’s time I started. I now have a “miracle” grandson in my life. My daughter, an ovarian cancer survivor, was told she would probably never have children. Henry Alexander didn’t read the memo and was delivered on December 19, 2012. I want, no I need, to get healthy for my grandson. Henry will have a long and healthy life because Grandma will teach him everything she learns during this challenge.

What is your goal in this Fitness Challenge: For me personally, losing weight is not about looking good, though it is an added bonus. Weight loss is not the goal; it’s the means to reach the goal. The goal here is to be healthy. Being healthy would entail, eating right and exercising. Having this opportunity will teach me what foods I need to consume to eat to be healthy and it’ll show me the exercises that are necessary to maintain a healthy body and mind. I know everyones body has a different makeup on how it maintains a healthy cycle and I know this is the opportunity I need to learn all of this.

Why did you apply for the Fitness Challenge? I’ve tried to diet many times. I always succeed with the weightloss but fail with the healthy state of mind. I dont follow a exercise plan but instead I starve my body of the nutrients that it needs to maintain a balance, so as anyone who has has ever done this knows….
the weight always comes back. During this challange I wanna learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle not just as a short term fix but for the long term.

What is your goal in this Fitness Challenge: My goal for this Fitness Challenge is to become a healthier and more energetic person.  I’d like help eating better and becoming more familiar with the equipment in the gym.

Why did you apply for the Fitness Challenge? I applied for the Fitness Challenge because I was tired of being overweight.  I’ve tried many diets to only fail. The weight just keeps coming back on.  I want to become more active and want to identify the reasons why I’m gaining the weight back all the time.  I specifically liked the training part of this challenge.  I don’t know how to use the equipment in the gym and I guess I don’t know how to “eat right.”  I just want to succeed at becoming a new healthier person.

What is your goal in this Fitness Challenge: To get fit, lose weight, reduce stress and most of all take back my life.

Why did you apply for the Fitness Challenge? I have come to realize that while I can help others achieve their dreams, I have the hardest time practicing what I preach. Thus, I realize that I too need to have someone coach me to achieve my best. As a leader, we are often trained to think that admitting struggle is a sign of weakness, but we all struggle sometimes. We all get overwhelmed sometimes. We all need help sometimes. Acknowledging this is not a sign of weakness, but struggling alone is a choice to grow weak. With the help of the Fitness Challenge, I strive to be strong!
