Freezing rain hit the Quad Cities Sunday, January 27, 2013, making the roads slippery and dangerous for those driving.

"The roads are bad, there's sleet everywhere. It's slippery; it's icy, “says Sean Mulhollan, who was on his way to Chicago.

The heavy downpour and wind made road visibility hard, especially when driving on the interstate.

"They're pretty bad, a lot of ice and passing trucks is terrible, you can't really get by cause I mean you'll just start to feel the car go out real quickly,” says motorist Robert Solan.

Illinois State Police were busy with accidents today. One accident happened on I-80 Eastbound involving a semi and a vehicle.

"We did see a couple ambulances with lights on passing us by. That’s never a good sign,” says Sean.

Thankfully there were no injuries, just property damages. Police say most of the accidents were caused from people driving too fast. Not only should motorists slow down, but also make sure your vehicle isn’t set on cruise control and give yourself enough space between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Police recommend staying at home and off the roads unless you have to drive.
