American Finishing fire 1-25-13

For the second time in eight days, firefighters spent the morning working a fire at a business in Eldridge, Iowa.

Fire was reported at American Finishing Resources, 330 N. 16th Avenue, just after 7 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013.

The fire started in one of the ovens the company uses to burn old finishes off items.

Eldridge Fire Chief Tyler Schmidt said a maintenance or housekeeping issue might be contributing to repeated calls for the fire department to respond to American Finishing Resources.

The exact cause of the fire remained under investigation.  It took about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Although no injuries were reported, Schmidt said firefighters slipped and fell on ice created by water used to put out the fire in sub-freezing weather.

Firefighters from numerous area departments helped work the blaze that destroyed Del’s Eatery and Pub on Thursday, January 17, 2013.
