Moline, Illinois Mayor Don Welvaert called the past year a “great one” as he delivered his final State of the City address.
Welvaert’s speech happened Monday, January 21, 2013.
He said the city began the year with a deficit of less than $1 million for the first time in five years.
Welvaert also highlighted continuing downtown development, including the second phase of the Western Illinois University campus, reconstruction of Fifth Avenue and two new downtown hotels. He applauded the future arrival of Amtrak in Moline.
A lot of great things have happened in the city of Moline from economic development. We've come out of a really stiff downturn in the economy, to the good, there's no increase in the tax levy this year,” Welvaert said.
Welvaert has served as the city’s mayor for eight years, and has announced he will not seek re-election.
