Police: Man stole, then abandoned, farm equipment

A Weaver, Iowa man is accused of stealing a corn head that police say he abandoned along a road.

The Henderson County, Illinois Sheriff and deputies were called to investigate the theft of a corn head from a farm on U.S. Route 34 in Gladstone Township.  The corn head was on a trailer and last seen being pulled behind a gray truck.

Before the sheriff and deputy arrived, the suspect reportedly unhooked the trailer carrying the corn head from the truck.  He then continued westbound on Route 34.

Gary Lee Stewart, 48, of Weaver, Iowa was arrested in connection with the case.  Stewart is charged with criminal damage to property and theft over $500. 

At a court hearing Friday, January 18, 2013, the judge set Stewart’s bail at $50,000.  He must post 10% to be released.  He was held in the Henderson County Jail.
