After more than three decades reporting and anchoring for WQAD, Matt Hammill said “goodbye” to News 8.

Matt Hammill came to WQAD in the winter of 1980 as a reporter.  He later found himself with a seat at the anchor desk.

“After 14 incredible years as a news anchor in the Quad Cities it’s time to explore some new career adventures.  A huge thanks to all the city leaders, police officers, firefighters, baristas and especially the viewers for being so kind to me during that time.  Whether my future plans keep me here in the area or lure me away, the Quad Cities will always hold a very special place in my heart,” Hammill said.

WQAD News Director Alan Baker praised Hammill’s tenure at WQAD.

“Matt has always been a dependable and rock solid anchor for us, no matter the situation.  We wish him the best as he turns the page to his next chapter.”

Matt Hammill departed WQAD Thursday, January 17, 2013.
