Firearms reported taken during home invasion

Police were investigating whether a home invasion and another attempted burglary might be connected.

Police were investigating whether a home invasion and another attempted burglary might be connected.

Two masked men reportedly stole firearms during a home invasion at a Milan, Illinois house.

It happened at a home in the 2800 block of 54th Avenue West on Big Island just after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013.

Police said the resident confronted two armed men inside the home.  The suspects allegedly took three firearms from the home and fled.  The resident was not hurt.

At about 1:30 p.m., police were called to the 3500 block of 12th Street Court in Moline, Illinois.  Neighbors reported seeing two men breaking into a home there.  Their description of the suspects reportedly matched the description of the Big Island home invasion suspects.

Police said they saw two people leave the back of the home and run westbound in the woods.  Moments later, police on foot in the area chased possible suspects in the burglary in the area south of Hamilton School, near 7th Street and 32nd Avenue in Moline.

The school was locked down and some roads in were temporarily blocked as police worked to secure the area.  The lockdown was lifted by about 2 p.m. and roads were reopened by 2:30.

Police in Moline said they captured two suspects and were searching for a possible third person in connection with the burglaries.

Ortiz Marangeli, 26, and Luis Madera-Martinez, 29, were arrested and held in the Rock Island County Jail.  Police said both men said they are from Texas.

Anyone with information should contact the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office at (309) 558-3414 or Crime Stoppers at (309) 762-9500.
