Police said a man driving a car through the yard of a Davenport home also nearly struck a police officer.

Police were called to the 600 block of Douglas Court just before midnight Sunday night, January 13, 2013.

Police said they arrived to find 19-year-old Arnoldo Herrera, of Davenport, driving a car through a yard.  When they ordered him to stop and put the vehicle in ‘park,’ Herrera instead drove in the direction of a police officer.  The officer reportedly had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.

Herrera was charged with felony assault on a police officer.  He also faces misdemeanor charges of leaving the scene of an accident, failing to obey official traffic control devices, no insurance, and operating while intoxicated.

A field sobriety breath test reportedly showed Herrera at more than twice the legal blood alcohol limit.

Herrera spent less than two hours in the Scott County Jail before he posted the $6,900 bond.
