Iowa lawmakers will start the 85th General Assembly Monday.

The house and senate will meet for a joint session at 10 a.m.

Over the next 110-days, lawmakers will tackle a slew of issues including education reform, property taxes and the budget.

Women will play a key role.

The 35 women who will serve in this legislative session tie the record for the most female legislators set back in 2009.

On top of that, two women will hold key leadership positions.

Democratic Senator Pam Jochum will be the Iowa Senate President and republican Representative Linda Upmeyer will serve as House Majority Leader.
