A Rock Island man is charged in connection with bank robberies in Viola and Sherrard that happened in late 2012.

The Union Federal Savings and Loan at 1507 13th Street in Viola, Illinois, was robbed November 8, 2012.  First Community Bank, 407 Third Street in Sherrard, Illinois was robbed December 10.  In both cases, police said the suspect told tellers he had a gun when he demanded and got money from them.  In the Viola robbery, the suspect allegedly held a woman in the bank against her will.

DeAngelo Dixon, 26, of Rock Island, Illinois is now charged in connection with both robberies.

Department of Corrections records show Dixon was paroled October 31, 2012 after serving part of a sentence for an unrelated aggravated robbery conviction in Rock Island County.

Dixon has been in custody at Stateville Correctional Center since January 2, 2013 on unrelated charges.  When that case is completed, Mercer County authorities plan to extradite him to face two counts of aggravated robbery, one count of aggravated battery and one count of unlawful restraint in connection with the two area bank robberies.

Dixon’s Mercer County bail was set at $1 million.
