Police plan to mark unmarked patrol cars

You can expect to see more state troopers on Iowa roads but not because the state is adding more staff.

You can expect to see more state troopers on Iowa roads but not because the state is adding more staff.

The state plans to mark about half of its currently-unmarked cruisers.  They’ll add emergency light bars, door decals and other identification to them.

The goal is to make the cruisers more visible to travelers in the Hawkeye State.

The remaining unmarked cars will go untouched, so state police can continue to use them as needed for possible undercover work.   The state plans to keep about 30 unmarked vehicles available for service.

The changes to unmarked patrol cars will happen over the next few weeks.
