Black ice blamed for crash involving van and car

Updated: Police say icy road conditions contributed to a crash that sent nine people to a hospital.

Police say icy road conditions contributed to a crash that sent nine people to a hospital.

Police said Debra Snyder, 58, of Rock Falls, Illinois was driving a car northbound on Illinois Route 40 north of Capp Road when she drove on ice and lost control of her car just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013.

Snyder’s car traveled into the southbound lanes of Route 40 and collided with the driver’s side of a southbound 15-passenger van.

Initial reports indicated the crash involved a car and a bus, but police later said the crash involved a car and a 15-passenger van.

The driver and seven passengers in the van were all taken to a local hospital to be examined.  Police said the driver, 58-year-old Debbie Williamson of Milledgeville, was examined but did not suffer any injuries.

Her seven passengers, all residents of Milledgeville, had non-life-threatening injuries.

Snyder was hospitalized and reportedly suffered serious injuries.

Police said no citations were issued in connection with the crash.
