A man says his wife is a hero for protecting her children by shooting an intruder in their home.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports the woman, who works from home, was in her home with her nine-year-old twins when someone knocked on their front door.  She assumed it was a solicitor and told her children not to answer the door.

The knocks continued, and then the visitor repeatedly rang the doorbell.  The woman called her husband, who was at work, and he told her to get the kids and hide.  She got the kids and her gun and hid in an attic closet.  The husband called 911.

The intruder allegedly used a crowbar to force his way into the home, where he reportedly  rummaged through items and eventually made his way up to the office in the attic.  When he opened the closet door, the intruder came face-to-face with the armed woman and her .38 revolver.

The woman fired six shots, hitting the intruder five times in the face and neck.

The woman and her children ran to a neighbor’s home.  The injured intruder got out of the house and drove away but didn’t get far.  Deputies found him in a neighbor’s driveway.

The alleged intruder, Paul Ali Slater, 32, suffered multiple internal injuries from the shooting.  He was hospitalized.  Slater was charged with burglary.

The woman’s husband called her a hero and said, “She did what she was supposed to do as a responsible, prepared gun owner.”
