There's a sign the economy may be "revving up."
U.S. Automakers have released their best sales totals in five years. And in the Quad Cities, last year's numbers are even better than what the national ones show.
At Green Chevrolet Chrysler in East Moline, General Manager Rick Zillmer says it's good news times two in 2012.
"It's strong," says Zillmer. "Incentives are strong. Confidence is strong, which is great to see."
Chrysler is leading the U.S. fleet with a 10% increase in sales over the last year. General Motors had 4.9% growth. Zillmer says Chevy Silverados and Chevy Equinoxes were the big buys for Green, giving the dealership alone a 15% boost for the year.
"The Quad Cities have been really solid, really stable and growing," says Zillmer.
It's the same story across the Avenue, where Reynolds Ford in East Moline is also celebrating a successful streak. Nationally, Ford says this December was its best since 2006 despite an only 1.9% sales increase.
"Our products are a lot better than they used to be, which has dramatically helped," says Sales Manager Mike Grems. "We have a lot of new technology."
Grems says their popular picks were the F-Series Trucks, Focuses, and Fusions, but another thing increasing their numbers is their website.
"People do a lot of research before they come in and know what they want, know what you have on your lot," says Grems.
"Like our inventory here, all our pictures are online, you can look and see every aspect of the car before you come in," says Randy Lyon, Internet Sales Manager at Reynolds Ford.
Even though U.S. Automakers showed growth, they still have some tough competitors overseas. Volkswagen posted the biggest numbers in 2012 - a 35.4% increase, including their best December since 1973. Honda had a 26% jump, Toyota sales increase by 9%, and Hyundai sales went up 17% compared to a year ago.
