More than 150 new laws go into effect come January 1st, 2013.

One new law will makes it easier for state officials to go after a self-employed parent who’s behind on paying child support.

The delinquent parent may have to provide the courts with financial statements from their business.  If the parent is unemployed, he or she will have to provide a progress information report about their job search, including any information given to the Department of Employment Security.

Another law effective January 1st will make many workers in Illinois happy. Employers in Illiniois will no longer be allowed to ask their workers for personal passwords to Facebook, Twitter, or other social media sites.

State Representative LaShawn Ford sponsored the bill after several people claimed they were fired, or not hired, because of content on their social networking pages. The law won’t stop employers from viewing any posts on the social media sites and employers will still allowed to ban workers from accessing the sites while on the job.
