If you’re cleaning up the mess left behind from Christmas there are a few things you should keep in mind so your home is not the target for thieves.
Police say thieves will be out checking curbside piles for boxes with televisions, stereos, furniture and other big-ticket items.
Prevention is easy, just break down all those big boxes before putting them in the trash.
Police also say you should remove all the labels from the boxes or fold them in between other unmarked boxes so the thieves don’t have access to your information.
“They drive around looking for this kind of thing. They’re kind of like the Grinch that stole Christmas. And unlike the Grinch, these people are not going to have a change of heart and bring your things back…I just tell people, break down the box, it might take some time, but it’ll save you some money in the end.”
Due to the holidays trash is delayed by one day. Wednesday’s trash will be picked up Thursday and so on.
