Crundwell receives extension in state case

Former Comptroller Rita Crundwell’s public defender Bob Thompson received an extension Wednesday at her pre-trial conference at the Lee County Courthouse.

DIXON - Former Comptroller Rita Crundwell's public defender Bob Thompson received an extension Wednesday at her pre-trial conference at the Lee County Courthouse.

The extension gives Thompson more time if he were interested in Lee County Judge Ron Jacobson dropping the state charges. Thompson says the extension will also allow for the federal case to close before more information comes out on the state case.

Thompson said Tuesday he is contemplating trying to get the state charges dropped. That's because Crundwell has already admitted her guilt in the federal case. She stole more than $53 million from Dixon over more than two decades.

The sentencing for Crundwell's federal case will be on February 14th. Her next court appearance on the state case will be March 4th at 11 a.m.
