Dad catches suspected Grinch on hidden camera stealing gifts

UPDATE: An arrest has been made in the case of an alleged thief caught on hidden camera stealing gifts from a Davenport home.

Corey Quiles, 19, of Davenport  was arrested Friday and charged with theft.

A Davenport dad is trying to find out who keeps stealing Christmas deliveries off of his front porch, but thinks a hidden camera placed in a Christmas wreath has caught the Grinch in the act.

“A couple days before Thanksgiving, I started getting packages stolen. One was a Cinderella DVD for my daughter. It’s just so infuriating, that he would keep doing it,”  Kevin Prior said. “After three times I said, I am not going to take it anymore”.

Prior ordered several DVD’s and a video game online, some as Christmas gifts, but three packages were stolen three different times, after being delivered by UPS and the Post Office.

So last week, Prior hid a small video camera inside the snowman wreath on his front door, and placed a decoy package inside the screen door, just like the delivery drivers did.

Within 45 minutes, a young man in a black hoodie is seen strolling up to the door, opening the screen door, and quickly leaving. Prior has no idea who he is, but knows someone does.

“I was just surprised I got such a great image. There’s no doubt who this is, if anybody knows this guy they should be able to identify him,” Prior said.  “As you can see in the video, there’s no hesitation whatsoever. He just walked right up to my front door and took the package”.

He posted the video on YouTube, and filed a police report and sent officers a link to the clear-as-a-bell video.

He’s hoping someone identifies him.

“He’s coming right up to my door and taking stuff from me. I just want him to know he can’t steal packages from me and I just want him to stop.”
