Two separate events highlighted the giving spirit of the Quad Cities this weekend.

Toy Drive

The Davenport Police Department held a toy drive Sunday at Northpark Mall.

All the toys will be given to the children at the Family Resources Domestic Violence Shelter and although they were surrounded by toys, the kids volunteering didn't mind that those gifts wouldn't end up under their own tree.

"I feel good helping these kids because their getting the toys and I feel good helping them," said Alex Murphy, who was helping with the drive.

Back at the station, volunteers worked to wrap the hundreds of donated toys.

Veterans Dinner

Giving back also took place on the Illinois side of the river.

Milan's American Legion welcomed hundreds of homeless and down-and-out veterans and the community to a dinner Sunday.

It's a chance to give back at Christmastime and honor those veterans who've served our country.
The dinner was a community effort that included donations from area small businesses, labor unions and grocery stores.
