Muscatine students again report suspicious man near school

Students at Colorado Elementary School said a suspicious man in a black van approached them when they were at recess on school grounds.

Students at Colorado Elementary School said a suspicious man in a black van approached them when they were at recess on school grounds.

It happened just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the school at 149 Colorado Street in Muscatine.

Three students said they ran from the man as he approached them.  Police said the students did the right thing when they immediately reported the incident to a teacher.

Police said there was no attempted abduction, but this is at least the third time someone has reported a suspicious person in a black van in Muscatine in recent weeks.  Police said they took a report in November of a suspicious person driving a black minivan who exposed himself and tried to lure students near McKinley School and a similar incident in the 600 block of Mulberry Avenue in Muscatine.

Anyone who sees what they think is suspicious behavior should report what they see to an adult or to police as soon as possible.   If you have information about these recent incidents, call Muscatine Police at (563) 263-9922, extension 608.
