A 27-year-old Oskaloosa man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a Davenport, Iowa man in June 2011.
Bradley Arterburn was sentenced Monday, December 10, 2012 in Mahaska County District Court.
Arterburn reportedly did not like his mother’s boyfriend, 58-year-old Robert “Hank” Horovitz of Davenport, because Horovitz reminded him of his sexually-abusive stepfather.
Arterburn was accused of reacting to the news that his mother and Horovitz planned to marry by attacking Horovitz with a medieval-style battle ax and a buck knife.
Horovitz died later at a hospital.
Arterburn was convicted of first-degree murder in October 2012. He was sentenced December 10 to life in prison without parole, and he was ordered to pay more than $150,000 in damages.
Arterburn had 30 days to appeal the sentence. He was held by the Iowa Department of Corrections.
