If you've filled up your gas tank lately, you've likely noticed it's a lot cheaper to do so.

Gas prices plummeted more than 40 cents over the last two months, according to the Lundberg Survey.

For the first time in a long time, gas is below $3 a gallon at some Iowa gas stations.

On Wednesday, at one gas station in Clinton, gas was less than $3 a gallon.

"I've been watching gas prices and I was very happy to see that today's was $2.97," said one driver.

"I'm from Illinois, so I come over here to fill up because I have to go on a long trip tomorrow," said another.

The $2.97 price in Clinton is about as low as it goes in the Quad City area.

In Davenport, most gas stations, according to Gas-buddy, are selling at $3.09.

In Illinois, it's more $3.30 to $3.40.

Most drivers say any financial relief is good.

But, there's a lot of uncertainty when it comes to the fiscal cliff and whether or not lawmakers will allow tax cuts to expire for all Americans.

"Who knows what they're going to do in Washington," said Tom Powell, from Camanche.

One thing Powell does know:  "There are a lot of unfortunate people out there. I hope everybody has a good Christmas, you know?"

In the short term, some drivers say, lower gas prices will help them have a better holiday, with more money in their pocket to spend on Christmas presents.
