The body of one person was found in a car after the vehicle left the road and went into the Mississippi River.

A police officer on patrol reported seeing tail lights in the water in the 4500 block of River Drive at about 3:30 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012.

Skid marks were visible on River Drive where the car apparently left the road.  Tracks were also visible in the grass along the river.

Volunteer members of the Big River Rescue/Recover Dive Team, along with police and fire department personnel and Quad City Towing, pulled a red Pontiac Grand Prix car from the water after sunrise.  That’s when they discovered the body of one person inside the car.

Police said the body of a woman was found inside the car.  Police were withholding identifying information about the occupant until family members could be notified of what happened.

River Drive was periodically blocked by police activity and by equipment used to pull the car from the water.
