A local woman was sentenced to six months in jail after admitting to stealing money and lottery tickets from her employer.
Kayleen Sharp, 25, of Wilton, Iowa pleaded guilty to first-degree theft, lottery ticket theft and tampering with records.
Sharp was working at Cigarette Outlet in Muscatine when the thefts occurred. Over a period of about eight months, she reportedly stole thousands of dollars in cash plus scratch-off Iowa Lottery tickets.
Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren said Sharp was sentenced to make restitution and to serve ten years in prison for the first-degree theft conviction plus five years in prison for the lottery ticket theft conviction. Those prison sentences were suspended, but the court did impose a six-month jail sentence for the tampering charge.
Sharp pleaded guilty in October and was sentenced in Muscatine County Court Friday, December 7, 2012.
