DNA left on socks helped Iowa City police solve a burglary case.

The burglar alarm sounded February 19, 2010 at the Fareway store on Westwinds Drive in Iowa city.  Police said two of the store’s windows had been broken out.

Investigators found a bag inside the store that contained money and merchandise from the store – and three black socks.

Police said DNA analysis of the socks led them to 24-year-old Samuel Lockett III, three years after the crime.

Lockett was arrested Wednesday, December 5, 2012.  He was charged with felony third-degree burglary, felony second-degree criminal mischief and misdemeanor fifth-degree theft.

Locket was held in the Johnson County Jail.
