Hundreds of people watched from the riverfront as Missouri transportation crews imploded a bridge Tuesday, December 4, 2012.

About 1,000 feet of the westbound lanes of the Blanchette Bridge over the Missouri River in St. Charles, just outside St. Louis, were dropped into the Missouri River in a blast that lasted just a few seconds.

About 4.5 million pounds of the steel bridge was demolished to make way for reconstruction.
