A fight in the pre-dawn hours in Des Moines ended with a 19-year-old man missing part of a finger.

Three men were reportedly assaulting Luke Tofanelli and somehow, during the scuffle, part of Tofanelli’s left index finger was bitten off.

Police were called to the scene of the fight, in the 100 block of Third Street in Des Moines, just before 3 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012.

Police reportedly found the missing part of Tofanelli’s finger nearby, and sent it along with Tofanelli to a local hospital.  There was no confirmation yet on whether doctors were able to get it reattached.

Tofanelli was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the fight, and could not provide a good description of the assailants.  The three men reportedly got away in a red older-model SUV.
