Starting Saturday, December 1, 2012 it will be illegal to drive over 25 miles per hour on most streets in Morrison, Illinois.
The Morrison City Council approved a new ordinance establishing the city-wide speed limit at its August 13, 2012 meeting.
“The new speed limit was established with the support of the City Council to improve public safety and that is our mission,” said Morrison Police Chief Brian Melton.
All city streets in Morrison, with a population of about 4,500, will have a 25 miles-per-hour speed limit with three exceptions:
The speed limit on Illinois Route 78 (which includes portions of Lincolnway, Cherry Street, East Wall Street, South Clinton Street and Portland Avenue) will remain 30 miles per hour.
The speed limit on U.S. Route 30 (Lincolnway) will remain 30 miles per hour.
The speed limit on Main Street from Madison to Orange streets will be 20 miles per hour when it is posted in the spring of 2013.
”In general and for at least the first 60 days, officers will be issuing warnings to motorists exceeding the speed limit unless circumstances dictate otherwise at the discretion of the officer,” Melton said.
Morrison Police will begin enforcing the new city-wide speed limit on December 1.
