One dead in eastern Iowa plane crash

One person died when a small plane crashed in Tama County, Iowa.

The crash was reported just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 near the intersection of 245th Street and R Avenue just west of the town of Clutier.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  A second person was airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City.

KCRG reported witnesses said the plane flew low over the area and seemed to struggle to maintain altitude just before the crash.

Federal Aviation Administration records showed the plane was registered to William Konicek of Traer, Iowa.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
