(WHO-TV) – You’ve heard of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, but what about Giving Tuesday?  Don’t worry you haven’t been missing out.  Organizers hope this Tuesday will be the first day of a new tradition for years to come.

Giving Tuesday has nothing to do with holiday shopping, or fighting a crowd for the best deal, and everything to do with helping others.  They are asking people across the U.S. to pick any cause, any charity, and give back, then share their good deed on social media and encourage friends to do the same.

Approximately 2500 organizations are participating in the campaign, including dozens from Illinois and Iowa.

Studies show the average American donor is 65 years old, so organizers hope that the campaign will catch on via social media and attract younger donors.  Everyone is encouraged to use #GivingTuesday when sharing on Twitter.

Giving Tuesday organizers also hope that young people will take advantage of the online donating, and text donation options many organizations have added to make giving easier.

To donate to HCI Care Services text ‘dignity’ to 46-986. To donate to VNS of Iowa text ‘family’ to 72-466.
