Ahead of this weekend's Turkey Trots in the Quad Cities, and others from coast to coast, a special one with a different kind of goal took place Wednesday.

Students and teachers at the Black Hawk Area Education Center in East Moline busted out their best turkey trot to raise money to improve technology in their classrooms.

The school is accepting donations so they can buy smart boards and iPads to help the special needs students there have a more hands on learning experience.

Black Hawk 7th and 8th grade teacher Gina Cimarrusti said the way technology is headed means they need upgrades, "It's the way technology is going, and for these kids, this is how it could help them get jobs, different jobs in different companies."

The center has raised $5,000 so far, and are looking for more donations and corporate sponsors to help them reach their goal of $15,000 by the end of the school year.

Contact Black Hawk Area Special Education Center at 309-743-1460 to donate.
