First Congregational Church in Moline held its 30th annual First Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 22nd, 2012.
The congregation donned Pilgrim and Native American costumes, held a Thanksgiving breakfast, and ran their service similar to the way the Pilgrims would have.
The annual reenactment is one Reverend Michael Swartz says members look forward to every year.
“At our breakfast this morning, there was a lot of hugging and greeting,” says Reverend Swartz. “Somebody came up to me and said – ‘Well, we’re living in Louisiana now, but we’re happy to be here and be here at this breakfast.’ So it’s kind of like Christmas Eve. People come back for it.”
The church service also included ancient tools such as an hourglass, which once empty marked the end of the Pastor’s sermon.
