Widespread dense fog left travelers delayed or scrambling to make alternate plans in the Quad Cities area.
The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year according to AAA.
Visibility was near zero in and around the Quad Cities. That means slow going on the roads, and delays and cancellations at the airport.
All flights departing the Quad City International Airport before 10 a.m. were canceled. The first arrival was a Delta flight from Detroit, after the earlier American Airlines flight from Chicago was canceled.
Similar conditions affected flights at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids, where early-morning flights were cancelled or delayed by a couple of hours.
At least three morning flights into and out of Peoria Airport were also delayed.
The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory that includes all counties in and around the Quad Cities until noon Wednesday.
Wind speeds were expected to gradually increase, pushing morning fot out of the area between 10 a.m. and noon.
Visibility was between zero and a quarter-mile for most of the area.
