(KDVR) – A picture of a woman making an offensive gesture at the Tomb of the Unknown in Washington has caused a viral outrage on Facebook and the Internet.
The woman, Lindsey Stone, posted the picture on Facebook that shows her hand gesture. It also shows her pretending to scream next to a sign asking for “silence” and “respect.”
She works at a business in Cape Cod, Mass., which has put her on leave after people complained about the picture via posts on the company’s Facebook page.
Stone was on a business trip to Washington, D.C. when the picture was taken.
The company, LIFE – Living Independently Forever, posted a statement on its Facebook page.
“On Nov. 19 at approximately 6 p.m., we became aware that one of our employees had posted an offensive, inappropriate photograph on her personal Facebook page. The photo was taken at a national historic site in October by a fellow employee during a trip to Washington, D.C. attended by 40 residents and eight staff. The photo has since been removed from Facebook, and both employees have been placed on unpaid leave pending the results of an internal investigation.”
The company goes on to say, “This photograph in no way reflects the opinions or values of the LIFE organization, which holds our nation’s veterans in the highest regard. We are proud to have veterans serving on our staff and board of trustees, and we value their service.”
Fox 25 in Boston spoke with Lindsey Stone’s father at his home in Plymouth, Mass. He said he was sad and upset and that this is not a reflection of the type of person his daughter is.
He also said she is sorry and embarrassed because of the situation.
Some people think Stone should be fired from her job.
