Fire destroyed Danny’s Tap in Monmouth, Illinois.

Firefighters were sent to the bar at 120 South A Street just after 7 a.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012.

Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat said the fire and smoke were so intense that firefighters were forced to fight it from the outside of the building only.

“We called in departments from all around the area.  We had four different departments here, around 30 firefighters,” Chief Rexroat said.

It took them about two hours to put out the fire.

The bar is considered a total loss.  Firefighters were able to save surrounding businesses.

Rexroat said no one was inside the building at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
