Video: DIY homemade Twinkies

If you’re worried the Hostess shutdown will deprive you of your Twinkie fix, this might help.

There may be no substitute for the real thing, but, since some of the products are already being auctioned or sold on eBay for anywhere between $100 and $5,000, a homemade version might have to do.

Recipes abound online for homemade versions of popular retail snacks, including Twinkies.

Here’s one:

For the cake, you’ll need:

2 cups flour

3 tsp. baking powder

¼ tsp. salt

10 tbsp. unsalted butter

1 cup sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 cup milk

And for the filling, you’ll need:

¼ tsp. salt dissolved in 2 tsp. hot water

2 cups marshmallow cream

½ cup shortening

1/3 cup powdered sugar

½ tsp. vanilla
