A man prosecutors say is a career criminal was sentenced to nearly 17 years in prison for being armed with a gun.
The U.S. Attorney’s office says David Baber, 44, of Davenport, Iowa is classified as an armed career criminal because he had three or more prior convictions for crimes of violence.
Davenport Police charged Baber after they said they found a .22 caliber revolver on him when they responded to a complaint that he assaulted someone with a firearm in January 2012. Baber later pleaded guilty to being an armed career criminal in possession of a firearm.
Baber was sentenced November 16, 2012 to 200 months in prison. The sentence includes 12 months for violating conditions of supervised released he was serving after being convicted for trying to aid the escape of a federal prisoner.
Baber was also ordered to pay $100 toward the Crime Victim Fund and to serve five years of supervised released following his prison term.
