Nestle USA has voluntarily recalled some of its chocolate powder canisters because of a risk for Salmonella contamination.
One of the company’s ingredient suppliers, Omya, Inc., recalled its calcium carbonate because of possible presence of Salmonella. That company’s calcium carbonate is an ingredient in Nesquik.
There have been no reports of any illnesses or adverse health effects associated with the calcium carbonate or with Nesquik powder.
The recalled packages were produced in early October 2012. The production code is next to the expiration date on the bottom of the canister. The affected products have an expiration date of BEST BEFORE Oct 2014.
The recalled items are 40.7 ounce (72 servings) chocolate powder with a UPC Code of 0 28000 68230 9; 21.8 ounce (38 servings) chocolate powder with a UPC code of 0 28000 68090 9; and 10.9 ounce (19 servings) chocolate powder with a UPC code of 0 28000 67990 3.
If you bought the affected Nesquik Chocolate Powder, do not consume it. Return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact Nestle Consumer Services at (800) 628-7679.
