Iowa State Fire Marshal adopts explosives dog

Four-year-old Casey is the newest member of Iowa’s State Fire Marshal Division.

Casey is a tan lab with expertise in explosives detection.

Casey arrived in Des Moines Friday, November 9,2012 as part of a special law enforcement adoption program offered by the Marine Corps for canines that return from deployments overseas.

Casey joins two other dogs serving the State Fire Marshal Division.  Seven-year-old Rocket is a yellow lab used to detect accelerant liquids during fire investigations.  Kodi is a two-year-old Belgium Malinois the department uses to detect explosives.

Fire Inspector Rob Van Pelt will be Casey’s handler.
