Some say, “If you didn’t vote, you can’t complain.”  So, just how many voters really showed up at the polls in our area?

Voting gets a boost in presidential election years, taking the U.S. turnout average from about 37% to more than 50%. 

Compare that to the last election that included a presidential race, in which 56.8% of U.S. voters cast ballots.

Here’s how turnout for the November 6, 2012 election breaks down in our area:

In Illinois: 

Bureau County:  16,755 ballots were cast, representing 71% of the county’s registered voters

Carroll County:  7,417 ballots were cast, representing 66.33% of registered voters in the county

Henry County:  24,556 ballots were cast, representing 67.86% of registered voters in the county

Knox County: 10,408 ballots were cast, representing 70.92% of registered voters in the county

Rock Island County:  65,442 ballots were cast, representing 71.42% of the county’s registered voters

Warren County:  7,883 ballots were cast, representing 65.64% of registered voters in the county

Whiteside County:  25,943 ballots were cast, representing 67.97% of the county’s registered voters

In Iowa: 

Cedar County:  9,641 ballots were cast, representing 77.08% of registered voters in the county

Clinton County:  25,060 ballots were cast, representing 72.10% of the county’s registered voters

Des Moines County:   20,482 ballots were cast, representing 69.56% of the county’s registered voters

Henry County:  9,766 ballots were cast, representing 66.45% of the county’s registered voters

Jackson County: 10,303 ballots were cast, representing 67.10% of registered voters in the county

Muscatine County:  19,807 ballots were cast, representing 65.85% of registered voters in the county

Scott County:  90,402 ballots were cast, representing 70.71% of registered voters in the county
