Last year, around 130,000 soldiers returned home and transitioned into the workforce.  It is estimated that by 2018, more than half a million will be home and seeking employment.  That’s why First Army has started a new program to ensure employers that a veteran is the person for the job

First Army and members from the Rock Island Arsenal met with the Quad Cities Chamber to discuss the First Army program called Hero 2 Hired. The program offers an online site that connects returning soldiers and employers in an effort to find solid employment for the veterans.

During the breakfast meeting this morning, Command Sergeant Major Andrews of First Army and Command Sergeant Major Spencer of the Army Sustainment Command spoke to the crowd about the qualities and characteristics those returning soldiers can provide to the workforce.

The meeting this morning followed a report that the unemployment rate ticked up 7.9% last month.  That is up from 7.8% in September.   The report also shows the economy added 171,000 jobs last month, but still leaves roughly 12.3 million people unemployed.
